Leading international strategic branding firm Siegel+Gale polled over 2,900 customers across nine nations to learn about their preferences for food and drink packaging. 93.5% of respondents preferred wine in glass bottles, and 66% preferred bottled non-alcoholic beverages, indicating that glass packaging stood out among various packaging materials and became the most popular among consumers.
Because glass has five key qualities—high purity, robust safety, good quality, many uses, and recyclability—consumers think it’s better than other packaging materials.
Despite consumer preference, it can be challenging to find substantial volumes of glass packaging on store shelves. According to the results of a poll on food packaging, 91% of respondents stated that they preferred glass packaging; nonetheless, glass packaging only holds a 10% market share in the food business.
OI claims that consumers’ expectations are not being met by the glass packaging that is now available on the market. This is primarily due to two factors. The first is that consumers do not prefer companies that employ glass packaging, and the second is that consumers do not visit stores that use glass containers for packing.
Additionally, customer preferences for a specific style of food packaging are reflected in other survey data. 84% of respondents, according to the data, prefer beer in glass containers; this preference is especially noticeable in European nations. Glass-encased canned foods are likewise highly preferred by consumers.
Food in glass is preferred by 91% of consumers, particularly in Latin American nations (95%). Additionally, 98% of customers favor glass packaging when it comes to alcohol consumption.
