How does the winery choose the glass color for the wine bottle?
There may be different reasons behind the glass color of any wine bottle, but you will find that most wineries follow the tradition, just like the shape of a wine bottle. In general, most wines are packed in amber or green glass bottles because they can also resist ultraviolet rays, which can be harmful to wine. Usually, transparent wine bottles are used to hold white wine and rosé wine, which can be drunk at a young age.
For those wineries that do not follow the tradition, the color of the glass can be a marketing strategy. Some producers will choose clear glass to show off the clarity or color of the wine, especially for rosé wines, because the color also indicates the style, grape variety and/or region of the pink wine. Novelty glasses, such as frosted or blue, can be a way to attract people’s attention to wine.
